Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect during our sessions?

Expect a warm and accepting atmosphere. I view my job as a guide and an expert on the process of therapy. All you have to do is be yourself.

Sometimes I may challenge you, sometimes we will spend time exploring the past or working on the future. Other times we will use the space to heal and take a breath from the stresses of life.

What is the time commitment for therapy?

The overall time you spend in therapy is really up to you, but most people spend from 8 weeks to a few months in the process.

Therapy sessions are 45 minutes long. If we meet for a longer period of time, we will discuss that ahead of time.

Most people prefer to meet weekly or every other week, but we will be sure to find the rhythm that meets your needs the best.

What types of clients do you see?

We work with individuals, couples, and families.

We do a lot of work with adolescents and adults, those struggling with anxiety or depression, and those looking for value clarification. For more on specialties, read up on the team section of the website.

We work with ages 8 and up. We may make certain exceptions for younger clients, but we will often refer to a local registered play therapist.

How much does therapy cost?

We don't currently accept insurance, but we can provide documentation if clients wish to submit to an insurance company for "out of network" benefit coverage.

Sessions range from a sliding scale to $150 depending on the clinician and are prorated for longer sessions. We take HSA cards and can provide a superbill to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

We have morning, daytime, and evening appointments available.

We also provide life coaching, consulting, CEU training, workshops, WholeFIT services, and supervision for associates and interns.

Jeremy Pierce is partnered with Reimbursify. Reimbursify will make filing for insurance reimbursement fast and easy. Use promocode “reimbursifive” to get your first five claims free.

Reimbursify is a third-party service and is not affiliated with Pierce Counseling, PLLC. Pierce Counseling, PLLC receives no remunerations for clients who choose to use this service.

What is your approach to therapy?

Jeremy Pierce: I base my therapy on authenticity, values, and strengths. I am trained in marriage and family therapy and often use Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and evidenced-based models.

Christopher Missimo: I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I put a heavy emphasis on authenticity, communication, action, and strengths. I am heavily focused on research and empirically supported material.

What is your business mission?

We are looking to facilitate the gap that exists in post-graduate clinical and professional development for intern/associate licensed therapists by providing an all-inclusive training hub. This in turn will provide therapists with the highest level of continued education and training and clients with the highest quality of care for the right price.

What’s the difference between therapy, life coaching, and mental training?

  1. First and foremost, Therapy (Counseling/Psychotherapy) is typically conducted for those who currently or have in the past, received an official diagnosis. Treatment in this area tends to be slightly elevated regarding the severity of concern. Attendance tends to be more frequent (weekly or bi-weekly for an extended period of time), and the treatment can often find itself connected to past concerns and roots to issues.

  2. Life Coaching is different that Therapy in that it is NOT for those who have or are going to be diagnosed officially. These are typically less severe concerns that are treated primarily through statistically validated behavioral changes. In turn, you can think of this service as a future-focused, goal-oriented form of therapy that does not include more severe concerns.

  3. Mental Training is different as well, in that it is specifically for athletes and gamers through Missimo Motivation. I utilize my psychological model, RAMP, to teach individuals, coaches, and families how they can gauge, act, and react to their mental health and performance in REAL TIME with shared language and without a professional present.

What are my rights under Good Faith Estimate Law?

  1. Under the No Surprises Act, clients who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage of the “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges for care.

  2. Avanti will actively strive to provide this at or near the beginning of all new treatment programs for new clients. By law, you have the right to receive this information within 1 business day of your medical service or item. You can also ask your healthcare provider for an estimate before service. However, given that an intake session is required to identify the underlying therapeutic problems and thus provide a good faith estimate, this may be difficult to provide. We will of course do our best to provide what we can based on best practices. If extenuating circumstances cause us to forget, you have the right to remind us of this duty and we have the obligation to provide it to you. Please do not hesitate to reach out if there is a mistake and we will correct it promptly.

  3. The “Good Faith Estimate” is an estimate of the total costs of the overall care. Due to the nuances and fluidity of therapy, this can be very difficult to project. Nevertheless, we will work to provide accurate estimates so that you can make an informed decision that is in your best interest.

  4. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  5. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 or more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  6. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
